PRP Artefact 4
Running behind on the PRP project i am hoping to make a comeback. For my fourth artifact i am going to book out the studio and conduct a test in which there is a lighting kit, a camera and in the centre a of the room a table and chair. I will have a ' guinea pig' to stand in the room with the other props. I will then set up a separate camera covering the whole room to record for research purposes, whilst my test subjects come in one at a time and set up a scene which they believe conveys suspense. My results will hopefully show a recurring pattern in the audio visual techniques that the subjects choose to relate to suspense.

Personal Research Project
Now that the Client project is finished i will now be focusing on my PRP project and even though I am struggling to perform well in this module, i am going to try and motivate myself into producing some decent artefacts to follow up my first three, which were rushed to catch up with the lack of work put into the front leg of this project.
Artefact 1
I chose to focus on lighting and how it effects the suspense in an audio visual narrative. I chose a clip from a film called ‘ Taxi Driver’ in which I think lighting played a big part in setting the mood of this particular scene. I created a chart on which my test subjects were able to judge the way they reacted and how they felt when watching the scene and I also asked them to write a few sentences on how the lighting effected their reaction. I numbered each section from one to eight, each number being an in between point for two emotions. The emotions ranged from relaxed and safe to fear and intensity. I then created a Facebook group for the test subjects to watch the clip and for myself to gather results.
Artefact 2
I chose to focus on the sound element of film and again asked test subjects to give reactions based on the chart from the previous artfeact. The results from this artefact showed how powerful sound can be in film and the way it alone can carry a narrative.
Artefact 3
I chose to focus on the music element of film, when looking at suspense and emotion it gives to a scene. Results showed that music is a huge part in film when trying to portray a narrative, and in this case it did create a lot of the suspense in the scene, the test subjects showed greater feelings of intensity when watching the clip with the music over the top and if it can create suspense to such effect it can affect viewers when portraying many other emotions also.

Conchords & Kiwi's
I saw a show the other day called Flight of the Conchords. It was amazing. Very funny. It's about a 2 piece band from New Zealand (Brett and Jermaine) living in america trying to make it in the music world, they're obviously talented in the real world but i the show they're not too hot. Their manager Murray isn't great either, getting them shows in hotel lobby's and library's. Its hilairous, very well written. It is aired on BBC4 quite a lot of the i think and there's lots on you tube of their equally funny live stuff . Enjoy!!!

Influences
To Andy Love,
In my review this year i was asked what my influenes are as a filmmaker. To this question, i had no answer. SHOCK HORROR!!! i filmmaker with no influences. I've some work to do. Alas i have decided on my first influence. Who is it do you ask? Is it Kubrick? .... no. Is it Spielberg?......no. Actually it may sound a bit strange, as he hasn't done that much, but i think Edgar Wright's style of film making has a sub concious influence on me as a filmmaker. Mainly the way i see shots and camera movement, well... atleast i like to think it does. For those who don't know him, he is often associated with the work of Simon Pegg. Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz etc. There is always a great sense of rhythm and the shots flow really well into each other. I like his style. There you have it, my first influence. Edgar Wright.
Yours Sincerely,
Nodwell :)

ICEWHOLE AND 2 Days Laughter

Just an update of somethings i have been doing outside of uni. I have aquired a brief for a comedy shorts competition call " 2 Days Laughter", i believe the competition before this was for horror shorts called " 2 days later" which explains everything.
I have also signed up to ICEWHOLE an online community for filmmakers and musicians to interact and display work.
I think everyone should do this.

LIVE CLIENT PROJECT
Application Guidelines
EM Media Talent Call 2007
To support:
DV Shorts
developing and producing short films
in the East Midlands
• live action drama
• animated drama
• live action documentary
• animated documentary
Deadline for applications is
5pm on Monday 22 October 2007
I will be shadowing a project that Jools is taking part in. I believe from one of his seminars it is called ' Carcas ' an interesting film about a machine that drains you and puts another body inside your skin. I'm confused too.
I have been brainstorming.
1. I had a little daydream the other day about a man who lives in the wilderness but goes to work in the city. I thought it could be visually appealing. Thats a strange one.
2. I read an article about man who moved to Salford, bought a house for £50,000 and was happy until he started getting verbally abused and taunted by youths with nothing better to do. He had a strange relationship with them, he talked to them, was almost friendly with them, yet still they persisted to throw bricks through windows, break in through the back etc. He then got three female polish and slovakian lodgers. At this point they abuse turned more violent and local thugs physically abused him and shouted racist comments, threw eggs and other antisocial behaviour, towards the lodgers until they left. This is just an outline of the story and it also involved alot of other locals and how they were almost scared of the youths.
This can turn out into a great short with interesting plot and plenty of ideas can come from it.
